Farsi Classes in Cleveland
This is very exciting news: Mrs. Azin Sharifi, a wonderful friend and our compatriot Clevelander, will start teaching Farsi classes on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 pm starting Feb 14, 2010. The first session will be from Feb 14 through May 30, 2010,
starting with the first grade Farsi book. The following sessions will
progress through, and occur, during the school year. The classes will
be held at her home, at 4812 Prestwick Crossing, Westlake, OH 44145.
Adults and children of all ages and origins are accepted. Parents are
welcome to stay, chat and have tea. Here is the phone number for
further information: 440 835 8382.
I personally feel that we should warmly thank Mrs. Sharifi for making
this wonderful contribution. I even feel mildly sorry that my own Farsi
is already quite good.
Census time is upon us: Identify yourself as an Iranian
As you know, it's census time. Please make
sure you identify yourself as Iranian. These numbers are used by many
agencies and government bodies, including lawmakers. If they know there
is so many of us in the US, there won't be so many anti-Iranian bills
in the congress. Here is what to do: do not identify yourself as
racially white. Instead, check "Other" and at the bottom of the
multiple choice, explain that you are of Iranian origin. Here is some
additional information in Farsi and English.

considered an inspiration to an entire generation of Iran’s musical
culture; Kayhan Kalhor, the kamancheh (spike-fiddle) virtuoso and
creative force in today’s music scene who through his many musical
collaborations with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and others has been instrumental
in popularizing Persian music in the West; and the remarkable young
vocalist Hamid Reza Nourbakhsh, the leading disciple of the renowned
Mohammad Reza Shajarian. Alizadeh, Kalhor, Nourbakhsh, and a
seven-member ensemble will be touring in North America, weaving
mystical Persian poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, and others with luscious
Persian melodies. $34, CMA members $33. For more information, see the

to your right where there are fire rings on the ground. The festivities
start from6:30 pm . Please bring firewood or other "burnable" material
